Pinball Champ

,Josh Henderson 12, is ranked 25th in the U.S. and 75th world wide in pinball. He has played since he was 4 yrs. old, and has competed in tournaments for the last 5 years. His dad says he competes against 30 to 40 yr. old professionals and remains cool and steady. He's some kid. Question, there are professional pinball players?

What Is It?

The creature pictured was pulled from a lake in Kitchenuhmaykoosib, Ontario Canada by a resident's dog during the first week of May. The Daily Mail is reporting it as a straight discovery, but I have my doubts. Opinions?

Rugby Robbery Smackdown

If all rugby players carried chairs, then I can see crime significantly decreasing.

image

Martin Richardson later broke his arm in a rugby match. When he showed up later to receive recognition for this smackdown, he was in a cast. I'll bet he still would have beat this guy even if he had an arm in a cast.

Sorry for the commercial before the video -- but it is well worth the wait. Especially the last part.

All I can say is thank goodness for closed-circuit television!!

Fun With Your Scooter

At my age it's not easy to come up with new and unique ideas. Thankfully we have the internet for inspiration.

Hazardous Shopping

A female shopper at a Bass Pro Shop in California received a gun shot wound in the butt last Sunday. A man brought in several guns to test fire in the store's firing range. While checking them in a .45 accidentally discharged and hit the woman's left buttock. The wound was minor and the man hasn't been charged with anything, although the investigation is ongoing.

Follies of the Mad Men #103

image
Something different for this installment: an old postcard.

Why would any casino want to depict their customer as a drooling cretin?

The verse on the back says:

AT SYSTEMS, MATH, COMPUTERS ALL, I'VE BEEN CONSIDERED APT.

BUT THEN I LAID MY MONEY DOWN, AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW..."I CRAPPED!"

Integrated Luminosity doubled at CERN

May 17th twitter feed from CERN:

Another good weekend for the LHC saw the integrated luminosity for 2010 double. This is a measure of the total number of collisions.
8:04 AM May 17th

The previous post explains they are up to half a billion collisions.

Adding the tally from last weekend's runs, the LHC experiments have observed around half a billion collisions to date.

Here's the link for the CERN twitter feed.

Here's another citation about the possible discovery of the decay of a "Strange beauty particle".

While everyone is worried about the CERN super-collider causing a black-hole, you have to admit that some pretty cool simulations have been created.

For your entertainment an excellent extreme black hole example, which happens to have CERN at its beginning.

Still not as exciting as siphons.

Jury Duty Logic

According to a Cornell University study a defendant's attractiveness, or lack thereof makes a difference in both the trial and penalty phases of their legal proceedings. Esthetically challenged defendants were 22% more likely to be convicted and were sentenced an average of 22 months longer in prison than good looking defendants. Wuvians could have told them that before their study even started.
