It's number 46 in a slide show, and you'll have to click thru to reach it. But I think WUvies will enjoy the other shots of UK depravity as well.

Crippled Children

Sometime we forgot how much civilization has advanced in 90 years. What was common becomes weird.

Of course, at my age I still recall childhood polio as a danger.

Old x-ray of a foot in a boot

Circa 1922. Not particularly weird, but an interesting x-ray nonetheless. From The Outline of Science by J. Arthur Thomson.

Creepy Centipede

Doesn't this supposedly whimsical and charming kids' fantasy illustration show undertones of weird horror? An obscene alien monster keeps a human female slave..... Shades of Jabba the Hutt and Slavegirl Leia!

Follies of the Mad Men #106

image
[From Life magazine for September 12, 1949.]

This is someone's foot. With a face drawn on the sole. Wearing a collar and tie, glasses, and a hat. With fake "head" hair attached. I know it's "just a drawing." But the concept is ludicrous and creepy. I will not buy your shoes, Mr. Roblee!
