30 Dumb Inventions

This has been making its way around the internet over the past few days, but it is still interesting. The Life website has a photo gallery of 30 dumb inventions. Most of them are just terrible, like an external baby cage for your (high rise) apartment window or a phone answering robot (who just happens to be mute), but this one in particular just strikes me as a great idea: Illuminated tires.

If these were actually available, which doesn't seem likely, I would definitely buy some. They just look so cool, especially on vintage cars like the one pictured above.

Globetrotters Costume Party

Here is a history of The Globetrotters Club, which is still in operation today.

Shortly after their founding, in 1947, they threw a costume party, pictured here.

I hope such events are still part of their activities.

Underwater Stripper

image

image
We've featured underwater weddings here at WU before, but who could imagine that there was once an underwater strip show?

The caption for this first shot from the Life foto archives reads: "Stripper Divena performing her act inside a plexiglas tank filled with water at Casino Royale Club,New Orleans, LA, US."

However, all did not end well for Divena, as we see from the second foto, captioned thus: "Stripper Evangeline Sylvas angrily breaks a water tank being used by a fellow stripper—a disruption that was not a planned part of the act."

Two Disneys

image
Have you ever seen a bicycle-built-for-two where the riders sit side-by-side? Me neither! And the fact that this one is ridden by Walt Disney and wife Lillian makes the whole scenario even more tantalizing.

From the Life photo archives.
