Murad Cigarette Ads

Surely one of the most gorgeously over-the-top ad campaigns for any cigarette was the long-running series for Murad brand. What a realm of fantasy!

Read a small history of the brand and see a large gallery of images here.

Follies of the Madmen #208

Where to begin with this long ad? The surrealism of a Corvette on the Bonanza set? The notion that a sexy spy like Napolean Solo would drive a Corvair? The mashup of Bewitched with Bonanza characters, including the ultra-campy Agnes Moorehead? It's a commercial that just keeps on giving in the weirdness department.

(Queen of the) Amazons

Here's a twist. Usually, I present the trailer first, then the full film it represents. But I can't find the full film for Roger Corman's Amazons trailer (1986) above. And I can't find the trailer for the feature length Queen of the Amazons (1947) below. So you get the trailer for one, and then the full other feature. But they are both so bad, you probably wouldn't have noticed if I didn't mention it, despite a 40-year gap and one being in color and one in B&W!!

Enjoy both!

Who Are You?

Edward Packard invented the "Choose Your Own Adventure" genre, which made him a good living -- and still does. According to wikipedia, he recently started a company to bring Choose Your Own Adventure apps to the iPhone and iPad. Packard may also have caused an entire generation of kids to be confused about their identity:

The Adventures of Mark Twain

We had some weird Zappa claymation not too long ago. Now we get some based on the work of Mark Twain.

Disregard the label on the clip above. It's really an excerpt from this full-length film.

Part 1 of the whole film follows:

Veronica in Wonderland

I presume that Archie is not hallucinating here, and that Veronica's Alice-like abilities are canonical, part of the Riverdale continuity. And I look forward to her future exploits.
