Psych-Out
Once you have experienced the 1968 film PSYCH-OUT, you will be unable to return to your square, plastic, uptight lifestyle. Just the sight of Jack Nicholson's fake ponytail alone will trip you out!Comments

The best thing about Psych Out is that it's a Dick Clark Production!

I think Dick Clark tremblingly saw the end of BANDSTAND coming and said, hey, how can I get in on this flower power stuff?!

alot of big names, before they were big. hippies just aren't all that interesting. i bet none of them care to remember this z movie (even worse than a b movie).

Whenever I see shit like this, I wonder how hippies ever took themselves seriously. Even Woodstock seems so pretentious, cheesy and superficial. If any hippies care to enlighten me, please do. But no fair using the words "like," "man," or "far out".

If I had to pick, I'd say this is probably my favorite episode of Quantum Leap.

These movies confuse me. Everything is so slow, how did anything ever get done?
I come from true hippy parents, but they never acted like this. Well, at least as far as I remember.

look at todays 'gangsta' crap. we joke about flower children with bell bottoms and all that, but atleast they pulled their pants up. the kids today are all about 'don't dis me man' and 'give me my props' . if somebody 'looks ' at them wrong that person gets shot. it makes the hippies peace and love look pretty good.

Sorry Brent, you had to be there and if you have to ask you'll never understand.
I, and many of my contemporaries, hated these flicks. The first movie that even came close to portraying an LSD trip accurately was 'Easy Rider' and that scene was shot while the entire crew was actually on acid.
The Seeds and Strawberry Alarm Clock were pure bubble-gum, cranking out safe, formulaic crap for the AM radio band. At the same time we were listening to the heavily psychedelic music of Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Stones
and others with roots in classical poetry and philosophy, not this merde.

Thanks, Stan. My vitriol is partly in jest. My disdain for what you describe as merde. When I think of the '60s, I first think admiringly of the young people from the early '60s such as the Freedom Riders. Then I think disdainfully of the young people's movement after it had been apparently corporatized in the late '60s into a kind of fashion--clothes, music, dialect, even a particular kind of spirituality--to be manufactured and sold to lazy hippies who were as brand conscious as today's youth. Utter conformity posing as individualism.
That said, I know better than to categorize all bell-bottom, acid-dropping, free-loving young people as conformists. Important revolutions did happen in the '60s, I know, and I respect that.

i've eaten HUNDREDS of hits of LSD, had some great conversations with some of the most influential people of this time and era, and most of what you read and hear about this moment in time is bullshit. period.

I am jealous! Stupid bad luck, born in the 80's. For as much as I enjoy taking psychedelics and dodging military drafts, I should have been born 30 years earlier!

Frankly, I envy people who got to enjoy the sexual revolution.
Posted by Brent in trepid on 01/17 at 10:57 PM
Brent: That's me, I would have LOVED to have been an older teen or adult during the sexual revolution. Sadly I was born 10 years too late and was still a little kid. *sigh*
I am the kind that would have passed on the drugs and just had sex 24/7 with whoever happened to blow by.

I'm gay and I turned 18 the year Rock Hudson announced he had AIDS. No sexual revolution for me. I'm with you, though, AGFH. I'd have been a happy foot soldier in that part of the revolution.

brent you are 2 yrs younger than i am. i'd have guessed you younger, you have a young attitude, dude!
Posted by patty in ohio on 01/18 at 07:46 AM
Ha! And I thought my ranting about hippies made me sound like an old man in a bow tie.

Just FYI, if you guys what to see what this is all about, Psych-Out is available on NetFlix's Instant Downloads right now so you don't need to waste a rental on it. To make it better, its a double feature with something called "The Trip"
