1956 Commercials:  7 minutes Total Per Hour Show

Now, that's weird! Especially when compared to double that amount today.

BBC America is one of the worst -- hour-long programs can have 22 minutes of commercials, and there's annoying advertisements overlaying the screen nearly all the time. Now that Top Gear is gone and Doctor Who has turned into The Clara Show, I doubt I'll even check their listings from now on.

Not only are most shows up to one third commercials, they often repeat several minutes of the show that was aired before the commercial break when they do go back to it. (Reality TV is the worst doing this).

We gave up all pay TV except for paying for Netflix and Amazon Prime. We don't miss it and neither do the kids.

@Phideaux: Top Gear will be back. Clarkson & the boys have signed with Amazon but that twit Morgan doesn't think it's going to be popular in UK.

Absolutely right BD! the commercials are bad enough but that repeating 5 minutes of show after them is really annoying.

I gave up most TV long ago, figured that the 4 Swedish channels you pay for through your taxes were enough. Besides producing their own material they buy alot of quality foreign shows (British whodunnits, Sopranos, Band of Brothers etc.(no reality shows)) Commercial free and they don´t dub! (Try going to Germany and watching John Wayne speak German in a WWII movie, you don´t know whether to laugh or cry)
