Das Kapital, the Musical
I've found a new musical to add to my ongoing list of strange musicals. It's Das Kapital, the Musical. It comes to us from China. Here's the plot, such as it is:In the first half of the story, the employees discover that their boss is exploiting them and learn of the “surplus theory of value.” However, they react differently to the knowledge of their exploitation: some are willing to be exploited by the company, and the tighter they are squeezed, the more they feel they are worth. Others rise in mutiny, but this ruins the company and leaves them out of work. Still others band together and use their collective wisdom to deal with the boss.
Sounds thrilling. Here's the rest of the list:
- Thalidomide, the Musical
- The Elements of Style (an opera based on the Strunk & White style guide)
- Fight Club, the Musical
- Men are from Mars, Woman are from Venus (the musical)
- An unconfirmed musical based on the Labour Party's 1997 election manifesto
- Menopause, the Musical
- The Diary of Anne Frank, the Musical
- Evil Dead, the Musical
- The Fly (an opera based on David Cronenberg's 1986 movie)
- Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical
- An Inconvenient Truth (an opera based on Al Gore's film and book)
- Jerry Springer: The Opera
- C U Next Tuesday: The Amy Fisher Story, A Karaoke Musical.
- Keating! (a musical theatre production which portrays the political career of former Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating)

If they can sign Bruce Campbell, I'll go see the Evil Dead musical.

I don't care who they sign for Debby Does Dallas as long as she doesn't come from Chattanooga.

I'll second that motion, Expat.

I am in awe over the originality of the theater nowadays.

A friend dragged me to see Menopause, the musical several years ago. I expected it to be totally lame but it was actually really funny. Everyone (guys included)) was laughing so hard we were crying! Jerry Springer, the opera...not so much. Debbie Does Dallas..I vote for the Russian wannabe mayor from yesterday to be Debbie. She looks like she could do Dallas and a whole lot more!

how about ambien the musical- give a bunch of people the med and play music while you watch what they do in their sleep! it's at least as good an idea as most of the above.

I saw "Jerry Springer: The Opera" a few years ago in London. It was the lowlight of the trip.

Matt - the Evil Dead musical has a splash zone. Apparently the blood flows as freely in the musical as it did in the movies.
Patty - Ambien may not be the best choice. Any sleep aid that says side effects may include sleep walking, sleep eating and sleep driving is just plain scary. Morphine the Musical, that may be a bit safer.

The only musical I've seen recently was Repo: The Genetic Opera. I have to say, seeing Paris Hilton's face fall off-- she was strangely attractive, faceless.

downcrisis morphine would be safer but boring.
a little gruesome there kingmonkey. although they do say most guys are just looking for a 'faceless' fuck.

Evil Dead the Musical was awesome. Intermission came up with chain-sawing with blood spurting and it was still spurting after intermission. There was "blood" everywhere by the end. Hilarious.

I don't know if you deliberately omitted this one:
Cannibal: The Musical
It's allegedly the story of Alferd Packer, as told by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of South Park. Take that for what it's worth.
