Flexi Discs

image
Vinyl records maintain a certain level of popularity these days. But I don't think anyone plans on reviving the Flexi Disc, which ceased production in the year 2000.

Visit this great site for a history of this odd phenomenon. Be sure to look at the Flexi Disc stamps from Bhutan!

i can't imagine the sound quality would be very good concidering the fliexibility. wouldn't that cause sound distortion?

Fidelity is better than one would expect for the medium, as long as the record is in good shape and is on a good surface.

Dolby 5.1 it's not, but considering the market and cost it's ok.

I have several dating back to the late 70's and early 80's from Burger Chef, I think I have one from Wendy's as well that was done in red vinyl. And of course I have the Whale Song one from National Geo.

I was surprised to learn the company stopped in 2000, I thought they'd died off in the late 80's.

Thanks for the nostalgia!

According to the Wikipedia entry, Burger Chef started to disappear in the early 80's after they were sold off to Hardee's. The last Burger Chef closed in '96, although several of the old locations are selling essentially the same food under a new name.

I know locally our Burger Chef suffered a fire in the early 80's and never reopened, this was about the time the chain had changed hands and new Hardee's opened across the street.

i didn't know hardee's bought burger chef. the one i remember as a kid had to have closed in the late seventies. but then they tore down most of that block for new constuction for business. maybe even then they weren't profitable enough to reopen. a hardee's opened a while later in a different spot. i'm a little fuzzy on exact times, it's been a while. smile geesh i'm to young to ramble about the old day this much! LOL

I don't remember these, but I do remember having vinyl records that were all sorts of different colors. Would be nice if they could do something similar with cds/dvds. Silver is so 1999.

Nethie, Patti, there are colored disks. I had some red ones in the last batch. And yes, I'm talking about the recording side not the top.
