PIRATES!

It's not a vacation, it's an adventure! Cruise liner companies in Russia have come up with an interesting and lucrative idea. For just 3500 pounds, $6995 U.S., you can cruise the Somali coast looking for pirates. The yaht adventurerers travel in is armed to the teeth, of course. Ahoy maties, sail in for a look at the story- http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/article.html?Thrill-seekers_pay_%A33.5k_to_attack_pirates&in_article_id=692946&in_page_id=2

i guess this will be what replaces african big game hunts as the big adventure vacation. sounds scary and dangerous to me. i could also think of alot of other uses for that much money!

I swear I've seen this, or something incredibly like it, and I thought I saw it here.

A couple of months ago, some website I frequent put up a link, with the comment "I do love a well crafted hoax" (or words to that effect), and a link to a site that purported to be a cruise line working off the Somali coast, hunting for pirates, complete with weapon rental and ammo sales and such, with a few choice testimonials.
It was an excellent work of sardonic humor, with the testimonials just offering the hint that they were given by racist rednecks, crazed gun nuts, and dangerously violent psychopaths, but leaving that as just the implication rather than going over-the-top.
Among the tips that it was a hoax was the absolute lack of contact information on the site, despite quoting prices for the cruise and the weapon rental (and ammo purchase) in several currencies.

I think our intrepid reporter (the one at the Metro, not patty) found that joke website and mistook it for something real.

This one's been around for a while but when we first found it there was lively discussion during our Wednesday AM meetings about starting one up for real.

I found this on Stumbleupon a few weeks ago, sent it to a friend but couldn't find any record of it in my histories, so had to hunt it down through Google. The 'testimonials' are great, and something of a giveaway.

Patty, I'm not sure which is more weird: if this were for-real, or that a reporter from an English-language paper found the above link (somali cruises is it, my google-fu failed) and thought it was real.

So you have nothing to apologize for.

The Metro, on the other hand, ....
