Nobody bothers me!

Nobody bothers me!

I grew up near Washington D.C. where this ad ran non stop from the early 70's thru 1986.
What makes it weird is that the jingle was written performed and recorded by
Nils Lofgren of the E street band for a lifetime membership in the school.

Grand Master Jhoon Rhee fought Bruce Lee in a tournament in 1968. Bruce Lee never laid a hand on him! BTW Grand Master Rhee is still alive and recently celebrated his 82nd birthday! HERE is how he celebrated his 80th! cool smile

I remember being fascinated by those commercials when we would go visit my grandparents in Centreville. I always wished the place I took tae kwon do was as cool.

But tae kwan do doesn't work well against TV commercials. With the elections coming, I wish it did.

That definitely brought back memories. Didn't realize the ads were only shown in the D.C. area. '86 was the year I graduated high school, so my last year in the city.

@Arlo: Most of the marshal arts were originally about getting the body up to speed so the mind could become clear. Judo means "The Peaceful Way" and Aikido has no form to open an attack but must wait for the aggressor to make the 1st move.

Hate to disappoint but, that ad ran a lot of places. I remember seeing that ad every day in Texas in the early 80's.

@ LAZ I never said that the posted ad ran ONLY in D.C. Just that it ran in D.C. non-stop. Alex said in his comment that it was shown only in the D.C. area, but I didn't think to correct him because frankly I didn't know any different. It makes perfect sense that the ad would run in Texas as that is where Grand Master Rhee lived and went to school when he first came to the country,He has over 60 affiliated schools in the U.S. and 65 in the C.I.S.(former Soviet union). For further info on Grand Master Rhee I recommend his WEBSITE.It is full of interesting info about his life and many accomplishments. cool smile

@Expat47: "ORIGINALLY"
Posted by Arlo on 02/19 at 12:41 PM
@ Arlo They still are about peace! The ad says says might for right not might makes right.Master Rhee's philosophy is that the purpose of life is to be happy. Who doesn't want to be happy? cool smile

@Tyrusguy: My wife seems to be under the opinion that I don't need to be happy all the time. Case in point, only this AM .... well.... that's a long story so I'll save it for later.
