The Adorable Circle of Life

Chicago-based artist Alex Solis has a series of illustrations that show predators doing what they do best — killing — but simultaneously being adorable. My cat reminds me of this paradox on a regular basis, that what is adorably cute can also be a brutally efficient killer.

I want to see some of a doe-eyed hunter standing over the fawning corpse of an elk.

I've always hated Bambi.

These are plays on those kitschy big-eyed waifs flogged by Walter Keane in the 1960s; coeds in Snoopy sweaters would have them on their dorm walls. I went looking the internet and discovered that those wretched things were done by his wife, and which he passed off as his own. She eventually took him to court and won when it turned out he even lacked the artistic ability to produce that dreck. His Wikipedia page identifies his achievement as plagiarism.

Not adorable at all; apparently intended as caricatures of Bambi style, but mediocre. What would be adorable is a realistic picture of a hunting lion or fox - they are really beautiful.
By the way, I read the original Bambi book as a child and was impressed by its violence. In the book, many animals actually die.
