Consider that a good number of windows in the European theatre of WWII didn't survive. Those that were removed and stored out of harm's way make them labors of love.

And the effect is even better when you stand inside the building they're part of and see the effects of the light play all over the interior. The gothic cathedrals are some of the greatest works of art humanity has ever created, and their successors aren't half bad, either. I must see the St. Nicholas next time I'm in Amsterdam.
