DNA Recovered From Maggots

Much like an episode of CSI, a missing girl's remains were identified by DNA recovered from the digestive system of maggots. The remains were indistinguishable because they had been burned beyond recognition. When the recovered genetic material was compared with the DNA of the father of the missing girl it was a match.

In an episode of CSI, the one in Vegas, Grissom IDed a body by pureeing some maggots on it and extracting enough DNA to get a match. GROSS!

2 questions:

1: "The one in Vegas". There are others, really?

2: You mean what they do on that show isn't REAL? I'm getting lied to? Please tell me that, at least, Temperance is doing real science.
