Don’t Call It Junk Mail

As George Orwell noted, political language often strives "to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind" — or pure junk, in this case.

'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.'
'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.'
'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master — that's all.'

My postman called it junk mail and said it was a big money loser for the post office. He retired before being suspended.

@Gator Guy -- BBM is normally a huge profit center for the post office. For a typical letter, they have to sort it, transport it to a regional center, sort it, transport it to a post office, sort it, and put it in the carrier's load. With BBM, it's presorted and dropped off at the post office's loading dock where carriers can just pick up their stack.

Carriers generally hate it -- heavy, often odd-shaped (and so hard to stuff into a mailbox), and they get blamed for bringing garbage, but without it, the post office would have gone under long ago (or it'd cost two bucks to mail a letter).

See there, that is the perfect example of the true meaning of free speech. He had every right to say it and would never be arrested or incarcerated over it, but his place of employment felt it adversely affected the job. For that he faces consequences. Free speech does not guarantee freedom from repercussions of that protected speech. You are only guaranteed freedom from government action and justice system repercussions. Too many people do not understand that at all.
