I've seen The Wall in all it's horrid, ugliness and I'm a firm believer that the E. Germans knew, full well, what was on the other side.

Of course those wrestling American girls were more fun to watch. Don't forget the "female" track and field contestants that the German Democratic Republic (don't you just love how the most oppressive nations call themselves "Democratic"?) placed in the Olympics for a number of years. Some of those women you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley.
