Flying Aircraft Carrier

Concept airplane from 1955. Jet fighters would land on top of it, then be lowered below on the ramp. It reminded me of the flying aircraft carrier (or "helicarrier") from the Avengers movies.

Well, if it doesn't run on some subsidized fuel (like solar or bio-fuel) then it'll never get gubment approval.

After WW1, the USA's Navy (or Army?) was experimenting with Zeppelin style air ships. IIRC they had one that carried 2 scout biplanes. To 'land', the plane had a hook above it's upper wing. The air ship would lower a trapeze type swinging bar for the plane to hook onto.

"Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow" - an underrated movie from about fifteen years ago had a fleet of craft similar to the Avengers design. In the Captain's world, everything flew.
