Pipe tobacco does smell better than cigarettes and cigars generally. But then if you prefer something phallic shaped to the wife then that is a whole other issue.

That was some creative marketing, to put it politely. I've smoked Field and Stream; it was not an aromatic cavendish, certainly didn't have an "autumn day aroma," and was in fact much closer to an English-style tobacco without added flavorings -- i.e., it stank. Modern American and Dutch style cavendishes are much sweeter.
