Football Meat Loaf

I don't think that shaping the meat loaf like a football makes it look more appetizing. And I don't understand at all the pairing of chewing gum and meat loaf.

I once dated a girl who could make a football out of a meatloaf. Cooking was not her thing.

The chewing gum is to help ease Mom's tension while cooking for six folks, caused by having to shape the meat into a football shape and then place pimientos on top in a lacing fashion --- lots of extra work but oh so elegant!

The Wrigley's gum was to get the taste of the meatloaf out of your mouth after supper was over!!!

It's a snap!

If anybody served me that, I'd be teed!

Allow me to add the requisite European "that's not a football!" remark.

I don't see, in any case, why meatloaf needs to be prettied up like this. If it's moist enough (hint: don't use the leanest meat - mixed mince works much better than pure beef) it's a very nice thing indeed.
