IIRC, there was actually a TV ad with a jingle (a bad one). Something like

When you use Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific shampoo
Guys will say "Gee, your hair smells terrific!" to you.

I remember this stuff. Even back then, the idea of random people sniffing your hair was weird.
