Gurney on road

The Bucks County Coroner's Office says it "deeply regrets" the malfunction that caused the door on the coroner's van to open, sending a dead body on a gurney rolling down a busy road in Feasterville, Pa. The errant gurney was photographed and posted on Facebook by Jerry Bradley, and, of course, immediately went viral. [syracuse.com]

Finally! Some dead serious performance art!

But, like all great art it had to wait until the artist was no longer able to reap the accolades regardless of how grim the subject was.

I'm reminded of an incident, some forty years ago, in my old hometown of Lodi, CA, where a hearse was stolen from the graveside even before the deceased was unloaded. A merry chase ensued through a few neighborhood streets before the thief crashed and ran from the scene. At one point the hearse was taken over a curb and the rear door popped open. A pursuing cop was barely able to avoid the casket as it skidded into a front yard and came to rest.

We had a tornado come through a small town near us in 2011. It tore up the local funeral home pretty bad to the point that initial news reports had the number of fatalities way off. Then they discovered that all but 2 listed as tornado fatalities were already at the funeral home awaiting services.
