Very weird. There's no "j" sound in German -- the letter j sounds like a y in English. So if you were to spell "yakety yak" in German, you'd spell it with a j but you'd pronounce it with a y sound. Here they seem to spell AND pronounce it with a j.

A little research reveals that he was a former British coal miner who learned some German and became a rock and roll singer in Germany.
