Jet Bike—Pulse Engine

Colin Furze is a certifiable maniac. Not only has he driven a baby carriage 50 MPH, he modified an old bicycle with a pulse engine.

Here's a link to the baby carriage exploit.

I expect we will be reading his obituary someday soon, which will include his crazy exploits.

ATGATT just doesn't apply here! It should but it doesn't.

Whenever I see someone doing something like that, I have to ask: is he a lot braver than I am, or I am a lot smarter than he is?

When I looked at another of his videos, where he was trying to twist/hammer/wrestle the metal into shape, I had my answer.

At least he's shown it can be done, so maybe someone else, who wouldn't be as lucky, won't bother trying.

Now there is a guy who could be the life and death of a party.

You do have to admit that someone has to test what a tinkerer develops. I used to work for the U.S. Air Force and one of the old line mechanics told me about wing load testing on cargo planes during the '60s and '70s - they would load a certain weight on the wing, check for stress failures and if none were found they had to be on board the following test flight. If the wings stayed on they were able to certify the aircraft. That method gave them incentive to do the job right. Sometimes the wing would fall off on the second flight. That's why wing load testing uses different methods today.

The craziest thing is that he changes clothes three times on that trip.

WU Has reported Colin's experiments before and will again as long as he keeps building weird vehicles.

The pulse engine sounds eerily like the engines on the old WWII German V-1s - called 'buzz bombs'

With all the manic laughter and hype about how dangerous it is, he isn't going any faster than you can on a pedal bicyle. He doesn't even need goggles. (If you try to ride a real motorcycle at highway speed without eye protection you'll find you're blinded by the wind, even if you don't get a bug in your eye.)

Poke around youtube some more and you'll find people who are going much faster than that on homemade jet-powered vehicles. They don't do as much manic laughter, though.
