Jury Duty Logic

According to a Cornell University study a defendant's attractiveness, or lack thereof makes a difference in both the trial and penalty phases of their legal proceedings. Esthetically challenged defendants were 22% more likely to be convicted and were sentenced an average of 22 months longer in prison than good looking defendants. Wuvians could have told them that before their study even started.

picture from yahoo images. sorry, forgot again. :red:
at the link they explain the way the study was conducted. 169 psych undergrads were divided into logic based and emotion based decision makers. they were given case files to read and judge. in cases where the evidence was strong there was little difference in the decisions between the 2 groups. but in cases that were weaker the emotion based decision makers tended to find more favorably towards better looking defendants. maybe it just came down to- when all things are equal otherwise they subconciously decided by whether the person 'looked' like they would do such a thing. unfortunately the real monsters among us rarely look like it.

Each of the 169 psych undergrads would be expected to all produce the same results as the others as they are all predisposed to have the same mindset. The results may be found to be valid but the science is flawed.

Anyhow, we would have told them the same thing for a pound of bacon and quart of ice-cream each!

Rob Petrie already proved this theory on the Dick Van Dyke Show almost half a century ago...

Yeah this is hardly a scientific study. I mean who wouldn't be baised to some guy who looks like a crack addict over a decent looking fellow dressed in a suit. If the shoe fits...

yeah that's why these guys end up with a suit and hair cut at the state's expense per their public defender.
