Just Imagine!

I can almost believe that I myself, starting from scratch and given several years, might be able to handcraft the 433 parts of a 1940s phone and assemble them into a working unit.

But how could I build the billion-dollar computer-chip fabrication plant in order to create one chip or hard-drive for an iPhone?

Two things are important here: 1) Thousands and thousands of telephones in a country of millions and 2) the F/X in the film are pretty impressive for it's time. In 1945 Gene Kelly danced with Jerry in Anchors Aweigh and that was the 1st film interaction between the cartoon world and hoomans!

Expat,

Anchors Aweigh was nowhere near the first film to have interaction between humans and cartoons. That technique goes all the way back to the very beginning of animation, with several important examples long before 1945 including the famous series Out of the Inkwell by Max Fleischer (future creator of Popeye and Betty Boop) that started in 1919.

Something Patty is going to make disappear with BD's help?

@Sam: You're right! I guess Gene & Jerry were, maybe, the 1st in color?

Possibly, though color cartoons had been around for at least ten years at that point, so it may not have been.
