In the rural Florida panhandle, Mr. Land Ford Jones was charged with domestic assault, and the best defense he could think of for her cuts and bruises was that, hey, she rammed her head into the refrigerator over and over, and what's a poor guy supposed to do? Northwest Florida Daily News

"Mr. Land Ford Jones"
Another case of parents naming their kids after what they really wanted?

Expat47 - Exactly, anything could happen around the Defuniack Springs area. I am also willing to bet they are related.

Hey, amayes... I see your home state is representin' again today!

Steve K - my sister and brother-in-law teach school. My BIL's first year teaching, he taught in the ghetto. He had a student named Clydelandryus. No lie. Dad's name was Clyde. Mom's name was Landry. And Us made her. I wish I could make that kind of crap up.

I had a friend who's parents did that with all their kids last names. The mother never changed her name so all their kids got a combination of mom & dad rather than hyphenating. It actually worked out well.

I would suspect that an entire blog could be made from the poor choices parents make for their kid's names. Most famous ones I've heard are

Orangejello
Lemonjello
Nosmoking

Bich Fong Du
Esuk Dong (e SU)

In Texas, we refer to names like Stormy, Amber, Honey, Destiny (Destiny is one of the most popular names for girls in recent years) as "stripper names," since that's about the only career where such names will help you get ahead.

Diarrhea Mugabe must have one of the best cases for a name change ever.

The cruelest (on the part of naming parents) names I've heard of recently, though, were Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper, and Trig Palin. Poor kids.

Big Gary - Please add Candy to the list of stripper names. We use that term up here too smile

Jules, my list is by no means comprehensive. I welcome contributions to it.

I also know a girl named "Eden," but her parents are from Ethiopia. Maybe that's a common name there.

When I was a youngin' my father was in the Navy and was out to sea. Well the wife of one of his fellow shipmates was from overseas somewhere and had not lived in America too long. When she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl she did not know what to name it. While in the bathroom she saw a name scrawled on the wall. So she named her child that...the beautiful little sha-thade....only the what she actually read, and matched with spelling was an insult where someone had called someone else a "shithead". Yes, the girls name was spelled shithead
