This stuff scares me. Way too much loss of control with it.

I agree, Patty, which is why I never took the stuff myself. But some of the old films made to scare people off of LSD were really funny, in a "Reefer Madness" kind of way.

This one is actually pretty factual and informative, not like some of the others.

It does remind me of reefer madness as it to is anti-drug propaganda. MOST of the negative issues raised in this film are the result of the legal status of the drug NOT the drug itself.
The ONLY proven way to reduce drug use is education not propaganda.

As someone with a fair amount of experience with psychedelics I have to say that was the most genuinely informative drug movie I've ever seen. To echo Tyrusguy, education is the key to reducing problematic drug use, and too many people who know the warnings are full lies end up believing another set of lies that says drugs are safe. I'd be in favor of showing recreational drug users a lot more warnings about the drugs, even though I support an adults right to consume whatever they choose.

Imagine how many teenagers would shy away from psychedelics if you told them "this will strip your psyche naked, so if there's anything in there you'd like to keep under wraps you might not want to take this."

When my peers were making that choice for the first time I used to tell them about the idea behind the "acid test": not everyone 'passes' and a failure (a bad trip) is said to be able to rival Hell.

...That said, anyone who doesn't get to have their mind blown at least once in their life is really missing out. It's certainly not the exclusive domain of LSD and psychedelics to blow minds, but it sure makes it possible for a lot of people who couldn't or wouldn't have that experience without a catalyst.

I come across little public service films like this and I can't help but think of a quote by David Lee Roth: "I used to have a drug problem. Now I can afford to buy them."

Or a quote from Eric Clapton in the song "Nasal Retentive Calliope Music": "Beautiful. OH MY GOD! IT'S GOD! I SEE GOD!"

Legalize them, control them, tax them and register the users.

If you haven't taken LSD, then it is hard for people to understand what effect it has. Plus every person has a unique experience. I can't see the video at work so I don't know what it is saying, but I have take LSD 5 or 6 occaisions and I stopped because it became a bit boring. There is no loss of contorl, certainly nothing like that exhibited by alcohol.

@Miles

"Imagine how many teenagers would shy away from psychedelics if you told them "this will strip your psyche naked, so if there's anything in there you'd like to keep under wraps you might not want to take this."

That is my view on alcohol, it is a really good truth serum. LSD is nothing like that, just trails and altered visuals. Don't mix it with cannabis though as that can bring on the paranoia and is probably the reason why most people have bad trips.

LSD is something that should be experienced once, it is great fun! Lasts too long though and isn't something you want to do repeatedly. It is crazy how little you need for it to work. Great stuff.

I wouldn't mind getting some, but it isn't as popular as it used to be. Maybe get some mushrooms instead...

I avoided the stuff like the plague, but came from an era when many people I knew did try it and did so often enough that most of them had a bad trip or two. Oddly, none seem to have died directly from it or suffered permanent damage. That shows how resilient most people's brains are. Call me lily-livered, but I wouldn't even buy a can opener from the purveyors.

I watched the video and it is fairly even handed, but it still trotted out some fallacies, such as flashbacks and chromosome damage, with a heavy lean on taking LSD leading to death.

Unlike other more potent products like Datura, LSD doesn't make you see things that aren't there, it merely distorts your vision. Plenty of important people took it and were fine; Steve Jobs being a notable one, The Beatles as well.

I think most people who had bad trips probably were smoking weed at the same time. I've taken LSD having smoeked weed and taken it alone and I would definitely say that the weed adds the paranoid edge. Plus I had read a lot about it before taking it an dknew what I was getting into, whereas in the 60's I expect a lot of people took it innocently and in the wrong surroundings, leading to bad trips. It does last for about 8-12 hours, with the peak lasting for about 1-2 hours, so I can see why someone would freak out about things if they didn't know it was going to last so long. Best bang for your buck though!
