Making Something Old New Again

Chris Dimino, a student at a visual arts school, invented the Corona Matic waffle maker as an assigned project. The students were told to take an obsolete item and remake it into something useful and different. Thus the old typewriter becomes a cool keyboard shaped waffle maker. There are other interesting inventions at the site as well, like the Uno, a single wheel motorcycle and others. First link the waffle maker, second link the list of weird and wacky inventions.

Right you are, Patty. When I saw the picture I got excited, but now I'm disappointed that there is no way to buy one (Smith-Corona is my favorite typewriter brand).

By the way, although fully functioning single wheel motorcycles have only been possible recently, using the same technology as the Segway, the idea has been around for quite a while. A version called the "tumblebug" played an important part in the Robert A. Heinlein science fiction short The Roads Must Roll, in which they are used to repair the moving highways (imagine the people movers at the airport, but 100mph).

I got hooked on the UNO cycle too. The fact that it's got 2 wheels side by side would make it a bit more stable and easier to ride than a true unicycle. My scooter is looking old and worn out and may have to be replaced soon. 😜

What really tickled me was the solar powered tent from the second link. Crazy.

I'd buy it.
