Modern Sensibilites

The judge in a custody battle has cautioned dad not to use uppercase and large fonts when emailing the children. Apparently it is insensitive and makes the kids feel they are being yelled at. Poor little snowflakes.

"There's nothing worse than an email suggestive that the sender is shouting at you."

Well, your honor, I'll be happy to stop by and forcibly sodomize you, if it will broaden your mind a little.

The site looks legit, but I found the by-line ("By News agencies") a little suspicious.

But yet like in our schools they no longer need to learn cursive. GAH!!

P.S. We taught cursive to our children on our own as they WANTED to learn it.
Apologies for the caps words.

We still teach cursive in our district, BrokeDad. There isn't quite as much call for it now, however, since there is so much more pre-printed test-driven instructional material and testing (for "accountability"). All that's needed is to fill in a circle for the pencil-and-paper mandated assignments and tests (which are being phased out) or to point and click, with minimal typing, for the mandated computerized assignments and tests. There are still some hand-written assignments, but nothing like what we had. And having a child miss recess and write, "I will not kick the teacher and break her glasses," 100 times is strictly forbidden (it will single him out and make Billy feel bad and it doesn't work --- unlike letting him go play with the others), so there goes that penmanship practice.

God forbid you should punish misbehavior! These kids coming up are going to be a nightmare as adults and it really won't be their fault due to the way they are being brought up.

We can unleash them on our enemies, who will be perplexed at their behavior, and beg for mercy! Or something.

I don't know how the topic got onto cursive, but I'll be there are a lot of Chinese people scratching their heads about our little dears' inability to learn 26 simple characters when their kids have to learn thousands of complex characters just in order to read a newspaper.

Or maybe the judge is just using this as an excuse in his quest to educate his citizens in the art of netiquette, one at a time.

In which case, speaking as a former sysadmin, I cannot applaud him enough.
