I would have said "sauerkraut", but in these clothes, even making sauerkraut is more appropriate than this. Those people probably tend to their garden in smoking and party dress.

Would never have guessed.

What threw me was the "Iron Ash Barrel" notation. I know they had a lot of terms which died out over the years (flowers of sulphur, penny weld, browning, etc.) but I couldn't imagine what 'iron ash' might be or why it was so popular that it was sold by the barrel.
