What?! You think opera tackles only heavy subjects like, say, Old Norse Gods fighting over golden rings, eating lightning and crapping marble? How ridiculous is that?

As Keith Moon was attributed to say when preparing to perform "Tommy," "Hey, don't laugh. It's a f***ing opera, isn't it?"

I'm not sure how symphonic rock qualifies as a "new age opera", but I'll go along with it.

You should also realize that Tuomas Holopainen is practically royalty in Finland and his band Nightwish has sold north of 10 million albums worldwide. He's a huge Disney fan and he's big enough to have complete creative control of whatever he does - hence the decidedly non-commercial release (which will still probably clear a few hundred thousand copies). I say more power to him.

Irene--your "symphonic rock" a much better description. Thanks for that, and the background info!
