Well, what's a township supposed to do when all the good names (like St. Louis, Joplin, KC, and Furgeson) have already been taken?

Actually, I've got a great aunt down in Tightwad. some of those places really are podunk (to use the local phrase for it).

When I lived / worked in Pittsburgh, PA, there was mention one morning about one of my co-workers driving in from Indiana every morning. I was new enough to the area that I thought that he was driving across the state of Ohio to get to work. Silly me!

Looking at a map of the area, I found Indiana, PA. I also found California, PA. Pennsylvania was a state long before California joined the Union. Go figure.

They missed one of the best ones.
Just a few miles down the road is the sleepy little town of Knob Lick.
I told the wife when we moved here I would never be called a Knob Licker.

Rex, not far from here is an elevation called Gobbler's Knob. Scratch Ankle used to be down the road but it's a ghost town now. None of the Pennsylvania folks mentioned the little Amish towns of Intercourse and Fertility.
