This image was captured just seconds before the blast front rendered flesh and bone to a glowing whiff of dust on it's five year journey around the world.

Buy, hay, ain't the doggy cute.

Hate to squash anyone's sanguine hopes, but he'd probably be okay. It looks to be a ground burst (not nearly as deadly as an air burst), and it's behind the mesa, which means a lot of excellent radiation shielding between him and the blast.

Looks also like a tiny one, similar to Atomic Annie's <5kt. Distance considered safe was about 3 miles.

The shock wave would knock him to the ground, and then he'd be tossed into the air a bit (shock waves through the ground are a lot slower than those in air), but nothing worse than he'd get in a good game of football.
