Remco Land-Mine

Toy land-mines have definitely gone out of fashion. Hakes Collectibles explains that the toy was "designed with a trip wire which you were to attach to tree or other stationary object and when wire was bumped, grenade would shoot in the air and cap would fire on base." Also, the toy was "similar to actual weapons used in the Vietnam war."

I had one of those!

The real thing was invented by the Nazis toward the end of WWII and was known as the "castrator mine." It jumps up to crotch level before it explodes. Yes, they were used in Vietnam too.

Most of our war toys were made by HASBRO. But certainly not a mortar as illustrated in a catalog I found. I wasn't aware that this company had such an extensive line of war toys.

I still love all my old metal roll cap guns. Sadly though times have changed and what we did as kids is no longer PC or safe (like riding our bikes to the park 3 miles away). Big Sigh !

Pretty horrifying in reality but kids have always played war. If they don't have the toys they'll point their fingers or a stick and say BANG BANG!

You want to be careful there, pretty lady, promotion of finger weapons could draw homeland sec's. attention to you and get you on some really bad lists.

Anyone remember cutting up old inner tubes for ammunition?

I remember cutting up old inner tubes to make slingshots, That count?
As to land mines, toy or otherwise. I'd rather have a CLAYMORE!

I found an inner tube from a truck tire and cut it into little strips for the pistol I'd built, powered by a stiff rubber band. I could hold minute of man from across the room, at least, but I challenged myself by killing flies at closer range.

We used to make rifles from a 2x4, a clothespin, a nail, and strips of rubber cut from inner tubes. Some of the rubber held the clothespin in place & provided pressure to hold the 'ammo' that had been looped over the nail, down the board and into the clothespin. The more knots you put into the ammo the harder it hit.

Great fun!

@Tyrus Thumbs up. I have a sling shot like that. I even had to cut up an innertube to replace the cracked bands (too cheap to buy surgical tubing).

Sidenote - I'm having trouble with the captcha this morning, it doesnt always load with the rest of the page. I know I could register, but to me it's just another password to forget. If someone wants to impersonate me, power to them - I'll let them know when they need to be to work tomorrow.
