It was difficult for those of us who came later to live up to reputations like this. Now, in this modern navy, everything that was fun about shore leave (liberty) has been outlawed!

Somehow I am also reminded by Expat's comments of the time Krusty the Klown tried to entertain the troops at Desert Storm with off-color jokes and was shouted down by PC-attitude modern soldiers.

The three musicians that Crosby and Hope took on in "Road To Rio" came to mind here.

"You're killing me!"
"You're in the groove, Jackson!"
"Me first!"

Just enough foreign language to be dangerous.

I learned how to say, "What are you doing tonight sailor?" in German at age nine, thanks to brother-in-law.
