Self-Elected

Congratulations to Asad Asif on his recent election to the Middlesex County Republican Committee. What makes this unusual is that he was elected with only a single vote — his own. During the primary election, he was the only person who bothered to cast a vote for that position, and he wrote in his own name, thereby securing the position.

Of course, what makes this a lot less remarkable is that it's a meaningless position that no one else wants. So the Republicans basically have to beg people to do it. And a lot of the time it's unfilled. [newbrunswicktoday.com]

I must differ with the assessment that the position is meaningless: the committee has its counterpart with the Democrats and each side is allotted 56 seats in the district. Consider the contrast of the committee seats on the Democrat side which are all occupied and the Republican side which are half occupied. The Democrats seem to really make a better effort get out and round up representatives to fill the positions.

At least the boy sent to the polls to exercise his duty of voting, especially in an off year election. Good for him.

This is hardly unique. I voted for myself for the open position of Democratic County Committee (Male), and for my lady friend for the position of Democratic County Committee (Female), and we both won. We each won by one vote, and it was unanimous!. And, I've done this TWICE! (She did not vote.)

However, they never contacted us to attend any meetings. We did get credentials to challenge voters at the polls, but that came from the Board of Elections, not the County Committee. Maybe they're just trying to ignore us until we go away.

This was Burlington County, NJ, Ward-00, District-16.

Maybe it is time to hold a WU board of directors vote ? I nominate Expat for the first VP position under Paul who of course is CEO/CFO.
