As I recall that stuff was some of the worst "pudding" I ever tasted. Now, "Great Shakes", on the other hand...

Like so many ideas in the Sixites, this was great on paper but less so in practice.

My father worked in sales for Standard Brands in the '60s; so we had a steady supply of stuff from their companies, including Planters Peanuts, Chase & Sanborn Coffee; and Royal Gelatin and Pudding. (We weren't allowed to call it "Jello"; that was their competitor.) That included Shake-a Pudd'n. I don't remember it being that bad; although I do recall that it improved the texture if you let it set in the refrigerator for a while. As a self-respecting 10 year old male, I did not engage in the Terpsichorean gyrations shown in the commercial.
