Shotgun Tazer

A shotgun shell that is a self contained tazer has been in development for several years and is now being offered to law enforcement for use. There is a specialty Mossburg shotgun that can be bought with the shells but they can be fired from a standard shotgun as well. Non-lethal force that can be used at a greater distance than regular tazers, this could be safer for both cops and criminals. Besides, its a neat piece of tech. For more info go here.

This is being tried out at some police departments now.

Great, until some ass-clown catches one in the face and, just because he was holding 15 people hostage after killing 13 others, he still gets to sue the cop, the police department, the city, county, & state for a gzillion bucks.

Deer slugs work well too.

(But, I'm not a hawk.)

I would rather get shot in the arm or the leg with a real small caliber weapon than get tazed again in my part time Sheriff job the last year we had to do in class. If you don't know what I mean Patty I can set it up for you this weekend.

Don't taze me (Broke)dad! 😉

I survived an older brother teaching me how an electric cow fence worked!

In high school a couple of the guys were talking about finding out why it was a bad idea to pee on an electric fence. ZAPP!! They really should have kept the story to themselves as it made them both look like idiots. But then they kind of were idiots so no real surprise.

Oh yeah, a taser load for a shotgun.

Wait until the first yahoo sheriff deputy unloads one of those on some belligerent grandma who doesn't get out of the car within the allotted two seconds when ordered. The line between lethal and less-than lethal is not as clear as law enforcement wants you to believe.

Taser is no longer making these according to their web page.

They were demoed to us several months ago at the county sheriff range. If they have been discontinued it is a very recent event. I still have a unfired sample.

I am sure I'm wrong on many levels, but in my personal experience, lethal force was always preferred. At least the dead don't come back at you. Personally, if anyone hit me with one of these, I would make it my life's mission to identify them, then come back and personally kill that person - cuz is soo frickin' bad!

@danny53, The way I've heard it said before is "I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6"

You got it, buddy! :coolsmirk:

Why does it have to be NON-lethal, anyway? That really weakens the intimidation value of a shotgun!

This is NOT a good idea. You DO NOT mix lethal and less-than-lethal types of ammunition in the same firearm.

Just wait until we read in the news that some officer forgot that he replaced the taser cartridge in his shotgun with REAL buckshot and tried to just stun someone...

I would think that the same gun would not be used for both.

From the article - 'There is a specialty Mossburg shotgun that can be bought with the shells but they can be fired from a standard shotgun as well'. I agree with Kyle. I'm not too sure about standard police ordnance, but many military weapons are specifically designed to fire multiple types of ammunition. The idea is that you are supposed to be trained sufficiently to know the difference. Again, I'm not too sure about standard police training, and not too confident, either.

Of course I bow to your expertise about military weapons Danny, and I know the article said a standard shotgun can be used. I guess what I meant was that I would HOPE the tazer shells and standard ordinance would not be fired from the same weapon as a matter of policy and safety. But then common sense is not all that common is it?

Common sense was outlawed a few years back as I recall.

I believe that was under the George W. Bush administration, but it could have been before that, even. 😊

You're not going to bait me with that, obviously, off color jibe, Danny. :blank:
