Spiders
Toyota is recalling over 800,000 vehicles due to spider webs blocking a drain tube for the air conditioning system. This caused the system to leak and damage the airbag electronics. Yet another reason to HATE spiders!!!

I like spiders too.
I have a related car drain tale of woe. Not spiders but mice. They crawl up the rain drain vent and nest on top of the cabin air intake and in the on-board air filter, and beyond. You only find out they were there after they have been dead for a while. They don't mummify -- they stink, bad. By the time you've discovered and removed them (if you can get at them), you're into months of driving with all the windows open, alone.

I love spiders. Spiders eat gnats. I hate gnats. I like spiders.
And in this case, I don't think the spider should be blamed. The guilty party is the one who designed a drainage duct so that it can be blocked by something as trivial and common as a spider.

Harvey- I had the same problem. UGH! I stopped to talk to one of the neighbors as I was pulling out of the driveway. Her young son stuck his head in the window, and as the smell hit him he said, "You have a POOP car!" I had to take the car in for some work anyhow and they removed a whole nest of dead baby mice, which they offered to give me (as they offer to give any parts they replace). No thanks!

ScoutC: It must be a pretty common problem. As Richard Bos says, it is a design problem. Why would they design a drain so it is a perfect mouse passage way to your ventilation system? The only upside is nobody wants to mooch a ride from me anymore.
