Starbucks Gift Card Redux

Back in 2013, I posted about a Starbucks gift card that cost $450 to buy, but only got you $400 in store credit.

The folks at Starbucks were probably wondering how they could possibly top that deal. But they managed!

For Mother's Day, they're now offering a gift card that costs $200, and comes generously pre-loaded with a full $50 of store credit. The other $150 pays for the card, which is made of metal and ceramic (and comes in a fancy box).

Some people have more money than sense. Those are the ones who will buy this item.

P.T. Barnum is kicking himself for having to wait a full minute.

...or...

They might as well sell bad prepaid cards as it matches their coffee hot drink.

(Whew! Almost pissed off the Coffee God there. )

In the image above there is one review, if you visit the site now there are none. Makes you wonder exactly what that said...

Am I the only person that has NEVER been in a Starbucks ? I'll stick with the $1 large cup of coffee at the Marathon station if I want one. If you buy 8 gallons or more of gas it's free. Two different blends of regular and decaf plus real cream is enough choices for me.

To borrow a phrase from Robin Williams, this is God's way of telling you you have too much money. Unfortunately, he hasn't told me that yet.

You people are too cynical. This isn't some flimsy piece of plastic that's turned out by the millions. It's a limited edition, and it's made of genuine ceramic and metal, and you know how valuable ceramic and metal are. I'm sure Mom will treasure it.

If any moms I know were to receive this they would react with incredulity at the foolishness of their own children rather than swoon in appreciation.

"Want a coffee, but don't want to pay normal price like some *poor person*?!? With this convenient card you can pay four times the normal price, showing all those plebs that you are indeed so much better than them! Supplies are limited, don't let all the other superior people muscle you out of this deal, you need this!"

I offer a one-for-the-price-of-two deal on every item for sale in the Pittsburgh region.

Kind of reminds me of the "Stupid Rich" commercial for sprint.
"They want to cut my phone bill in half", "Why?"
