Tarantulas, Hermit Crabs Make Effective Holiday Gifts

This has always been my gift-giving philosophy, which I often extend to birthday celebrations as well. From the Los Angeles Times, Nov. 30, 1978:

DO NOT EVER GIVE ME CREEPY CRAWLIES!!! :ahhh: :ahhh:
Look at that girl's face, she looks terrified of the bird. Not exactly the best advertisement to buy one.

I stopped buy a pet store in FloRidda a couple of months ago and saw a cute ball of fuzz playing with a ball. I asked what breed the pup was as he didn't look like more than an animated mop head.

"He's a 'teddy bear'", was the sales lady's reply.

"What exactly is that?", I inquire.

"It's a mix of (I don't quite remember) 3 breeds", she said.

"Ah, a mutt! And what are you asking for him?"

"$1,000.00" was the reply.

Something is SERIOUSLY wrong when a mutt hybrid goes for $1,000. Lord knows what an EXOTIC bug costs.

I bought my wife three fiddler crabs on Valentines Day so I could make that joke. Okay, actually I bought them for myself but made the joke so she wouldn't yell at me so much.
