Those of us of a certain age remember CB radios, and how the popular culture was utterly obsessed with them. As a kid I had a base station that could pick up CB channels. We lived near a major highway, so I often listened in on truckers (and yeah, they really did say things like “that’s a big 10-4, good buddy!”). Late at night, you could hear all kinds of naughty talk and people trying to hook up — I guess that was part of the appeal. 😉

To prep for a cross-country trip during that period, an early task was to add a CB to my car. And we all made sure to be up on the lingo and have "handles", so we could join in.
