The Little Foxes Club

image

I can't find too much information on the "Little Foxes Club," whose mission was to promote African-American female beauty. In 1958, they had a beauty contest in Detroit.

Original article here.

And they were mentioned in this 1966 cheesecake photo.

Original article here.

I can only imagine the loud controversy such an organization would bring down upon itself in these times.

If all the states were represented, how come Baltimore came the furthest? IIRC, it's quite a bit further than 520 miles from anywhere in Alaska (or Georgia or California or Florida or lots of places) to Detroit.

I guess "breakfast at the Gotham Hotel" means somebody really *did* respect them in the morning.

Of course they get respect, sisters don't take shit from anyone.

I think the part about all the states being represented means that they dressed up to represent the states, not that there were women there from all the states. Also, in 1958, there were only 48 states (no Alaska or Hawaii until 1959).
