The Lucrative Deer Urine Industry

Judi Collora, owner of Mrs. Doe Pee's Buck Lures, makes her living selling deer urine. She sells it to hunters who use it to lure deers. Apparently it's a pretty good living. Businessweek.com figures she's a multimillionaire.

Some factoids about the deer urine business: 1) it's seasonal, because deers pee more in the summer than they do in winter. 2) the urine is collected by means of a two-story barn. The deer are on the top floor, and their urine drips through grates into vats on the first floor.

Despite her success, Collora is worried about the future. She fears that an Obama victory in November will cause the collapse of the deer-urine industry. So it sounds like Romney has the deer-urine vote in the bag.

I don't really think that an Obama second term will bring about gun control so severe that deer hunting will be brought to an end. I am certainly glad I am not this lady's neighbor! Pee ewww!

The use of bait and or scent lures is cheating, NOT hunting. 😠
Our president has NOT tried to enact ANY new gun laws, That idea is
just ANOTHER of the MANY LIES being spread round by the right wing! :coolmad:

To play devil's advocate, maybe she was worried about the economy instead of gun control. If so, she's not thinking clearly--hunting for food is recession-proof.

You tell 'em, Tyrusguy! If you have to lure a deer with salt licks, hay bales or pee, you're too lazy to call yourself a hunter. Get off your keister and do some tracking.
Guns, like motor vehicles, are useful machines built for specific purposes which can be great if used correctly but deadly if used incorrectly. Most normally functioning people don't think twice about having certain restrictions on the use of vehicles: where you can operate them (can't drive across people's yards, on the sidewalks, etc.), licensing (which requires a road test and age of 16 or older where I live), and what kinds of vehicles you can use in certain places (can't drive an army tank or a rocket fueled drag race car around town). But heaven forbid you put any restrictions whatsoever on where you can have guns, who can have them, and what types of guns people can have. Doesn't make sense to me. Oh wait, yeah it does..... $$$$$.

If anyone would rta, they'd know the reason her business is in danger is because the administration's economic policy hurts small businesses.

“In 2010, around 25 percent of archery shops closed their doors,” Collora says.

If Obama gets re-elected, small businesses really have no hope -- even more tax increases are on his agenda, and the new health care costs will force many to drop their employees' insurance. Workers can't afford to be without that benefit, so they'll have to look for other employment or, more likely, go on welfare (which Obama has made much more lucrative while removing the time constraints).

@Phideaux, Check your "facts". Or maybe just try watching something besides FOX "news"!!! 😛

Tyrusguy... If you use the bumper and grill of your truck to kill a deer, is that cheating? Two times! The closest I have come to being killed by wildlife is when I stepped over a log and a day old fawn jumped up and ran away. I almost had a heart attack!

All I know from looking at the picture is I love "horny" ladies.

I agree, hunting is recession proof. Also, if things are so bad you have to hunt to feed the family then nothing is cheating in my book. There have been a few times in the last few years when receiving deer meat from friends who hunt helped my sister's family tremendously.

Patty, I agree. If it's because you need food for the table, then it's all fair.

If your family is in need please contact
http://www.huntersagainsthunger.org/
or
http://www.nrahq.org/hunting/hungry_nat_list.asp

The second link is to the NRA page that contains contact info for groups
Around the US and Canada that share the goal of providing wild game to those in need.
Most of the cheating hunters I have seen are not hunting out of need,
they just want a trophy and they will do almost anything to get one.
Hope this helps!

The one rule each and every land owner around, where I grew up, was that you ate what you hunted. (There were exceptions; skunks, etc) When we'd taken more than we wanted or could use the excess got passed around to others that would/could use the game or fish.
Posted by Expat47 in Athens, Greece on 09/04/12 at 12:49 AM
Expat... I should be the last person to cast a stone but in keeping with your pregnant bikinis, there are many things HUNTED but not eaten.
Posted by BMN on 09/04/12 at 05:37 AM
Most stuff that is only HUNTED never gets eaten; you have to catch, trap, shoot, snag, snare, gather, or kill it first.

But, back on theme.... We went hunting sparrows many an evening where hundreds and hundreds were killed but we didn't eat them. Pigeons were avidly hunted and, though edible, we never went to the trouble.
