Maybe it was Jack Kerouac who said, which I've often quoted with regard to my eponymous favorite living writer, something like "What's too foolish to be spoken can be sung." I don't know Hatch's excuse.

For this particular genre, Hatch is actually more gifted than most. Most contemporary religious music is either hyper-emotional or didactic, whereas Hatch pays more attention to word choice and imagery. And his tunesmithing isn't half bad either.
But it's still bizarre to see him collaborating with fellow Mormon Gladys Knight. Gladys Knight sings Orrin Hatch - something surreal about the whole thing.
