OMG! No freakin' way I'd do that, my heart would stop mid swing. It does look cool though.

I watched "The Making Of..." too. Didn't hear much about permission from park rangers, etc. They had to have paid some wicked fees though!

Expat, my thoughts were that some Interior Department bureaucrat would see this and declare the arch off limits due to "wear and tear on the environment".

Yes, that rope rubbing back and forth will wear through the stone in a couple of MILLION years, the eco nuts will go crazy.(its a short trip)

The rigging that was shown in the making of video looked like standard mountaineering gear used to arrest unintended falls(other than a couple of chains to prevent chafing of the swing ropes) as such no special permits would be required in that park as climbing is one of the major attractions in moab. cool smile

Did these people take picture beforehand to prove any cracks in the rocks were there already when they started swinging?
