Ugly Notes

Ugly Notes is a company that sells greetings cards for "horrible people." They bear messages such as, "If you spoke your mind you'd be speechless," and "You brighten up the room with your absence."

The idea for marketing antisocial messages isn't new. It goes back at least to the 1960s, when entrepreneur Charles Hollis started selling stickers that bore messages such as "Kick a puppy today" and "Stamp out whooping cranes." I've written about Hollis over at the Hoax Museum.

And on the opposite end of the spectrum, you have organizations such as Love For The Elderly, which "collects anonymous letters of kindness and distributes them to elderly citizens throughout America." I'm guessing Love For The Elderly and Ugly Notes won't ever do a partnership.

How about one free letter of kindness to everyone who receives an Ugly Notes for the Anti-Bullying Week?

How about "Life is hard. It's harder when you are stupid."

I bought a card for someone years ago that read on the outside:

"You have a big dick!"

On the inside:

"Oops - I meant to say you ARE a big dick. Sorry about that."

Nasty grams huh? Well if you send one you should have to sign it to be fair.

My wife bought a card that reads something like:

On the outside: There's a lovely group we'd like you to consider joining.

On the inside: It's called the human race.

Think there is also a company that sells "Demotivators," mock plaques that mimic those "motivational" signs that hang in corporate offices to inspire the gopher-like denizens of Cubeville. This company also sells a line of cards based on their product. (Sorry I can't provide a link.)

(Organizations such as "Love for the Elderly" provide a very valuable service to those in nursing homes, especially around Christmas. I would urge everyone to send a greeting card to someone who may not get any from anyone else. Having worked in nursing homes I know such things are appreciated.)

The Demotivators products are sold by Despair.com

I still have some buttons from the 1970s:

I'd take you out to lunch, but you already are.

I'd like to take you out and leave you there.

If ignorance is bliss, you must be having a life-long orgasm.

You strike me as someone who doesn't know what the f*** they're talking about.

Erotic is using a feather. Kinky is using the whole chicken.

It only seems kinky the first time.

Suddenly, I realized: I'm a man. I'm SUPPOSED to be an a-hole!

Going to hell when I die would just be redundant.

Don't play stupid with me ... I'm better at it.

Thous Shalt Not Kill. (grievous bodily harm is sometimes justified, however)

@Yudith I don't condone bullying at all, but the PC-Police crowd (that's jumped on the anti-bullying train lately), has bullied me personally more than anyone else. I think it's a zero-tolerance policy going/gone awry. It takes more than a mean note to constitue bullying, in my opinion. (Several dozen mean notes might qualify)
