Universal Translator Already Here

It doesn't have Klingon yet, but this demonstration shows the technology exists to make your own Universal Translator, ala Star Trek.

I barely understand all the pieces used in the assembly, much less how it is done.

A version for all of us could be just around the corner.

What language would you want translated?

There was a political speak to English translator once. Basically just reversed the meaning of everything said. My favorite translation: "Read my lips, know new taxes!"

Navajo (Dineh, to native speakers).

There are a lot of older people on the reservation who only speak Dineh, and as an English-only speaker I can't understand them and they can't understand me. Chapter and other public meetings are often held only in Dineh.

I think the spoken language of the Navajo people is still considered a military secret from WWII use by the navajo Codetalkers. It takes the military *FOREVER* to de-classify things. http://www.navajocodetalkers.org/

Patty, I think all women already know what men are really trying to say to them, and the answer is usually either "No," or "I'm calling the cops."
