Very Cool

Please read and comment on the very interesting article at the link below. It concerns both computer hacking and global warming.

it is not strictly weird news i'll admit. but my first comment is true, i wanted to see what some of the interesting and educated people here at wu had to say about the information. forgive me if it does not rate up there with placenta bears and such. if the post causes too much uproar i will pull it.

Gasp! You mean that the Earth's climate is in flux? Has this ever happened before?

Well, if it is and if it really is getting warmer I know a lot of old farts that'll be singing Ma Nature's praises. Old bones just don't do well in the cold.

Anyhow, I heard that to save the Earth we need to genealogically enhance cows and pigs to fart less. Of course, an aging population may be part of the problem too.

everything seems to be cyclicle and i have wondered if the cycle we are in with regards to the weather is just larger and longer than we can track. in other words is global warming part of a cycle that will reverse itself as the cycle progresses. other than that thought it seems that the concensous so far is that this is just another conspiracy theory.
expat, my old bones hurt too sweetie. :shut:

The earth would be warming even without human interference; we are still coming out of an ice age. However, not only is the earth warming much faster than it should, but the content of the atmosphere is changing with the influx of carbon dioxide. The generally-accepted resolution is that if CO2 levels reach twice their pre-industrial level, it will be too late to prevent drastic climate change.

And expat, patty, don't get too comfortable. If the ice caps melt, the disruption of ocean currents caused by all the freshwater coming in at the poles is likely to cause colder temperatures in Western Europe and North America.

I have to agree with BD. This is about weirdness. Now, if the members of an esoteric cinnamon-bun-worshiping cult had been among those who hacked the server, well, THAT would be weird. As much as I consider this an important issue that cannot be combated simply by ignoring the obvious warning signs, WU is not the place for such debate.
I shall now do my part to add a little weirdness:
What's sexier than a topless woman? (NSFW HuffPo slideshow content ahead.)

thank you spyone, for a well thought out and interesting response. that is what i was after in the first place. we are all about weird and fun and funny here but that does not change the fact that we have so many brilliant posters here. sometimes i'll read something and think, what would dumbfounded or spyone or dfstuckey ect. think about this. i have to be mindful of our appropriate content here though. i'm just glad someone gave me some interesting discourse on this one instead of being pissed about it's non-weird status. thanks again sweetie.
