Looks like an axolotl, but I'm reluctant to look closer, since according to John Hodgman, if you look at one too long, you will turn into one.

As I recall, in addition to being the real world animal that most looks like a Pokemon, they're also technically immortal: they never grow old and can't die of old age.

yep, axolotl... i mean, the name is just cool and the creature is weird enough that is it memorable... plus it's fun to think of shooting one with an atlatl

The ones I've seen before were black, but you don't forget an axolotl once you've seen one. I wonder if this is a different kind or a different stage or something.
They eat them in Japan.

An albino mud puppy!
The kids in Tennessee, where I grew up, would catch the ordinary ones and keep them as pets.
This looks the same, but devoid of pigment, hence the "albino" part.
