Where are our space helmets?

Here's another prediction of yesteryear that never panned out. Found in the Kingsport News - Apr 2, 1959:

J. McLaren Thomson, president of the National Hairdressers Federation, predicts that both men and women will have their hair short by 1999 so that they can wear space helmets. He said women will have a collection of wigs to wear with special dresses for gala occasions.

So you can't wear a space helmet if you have long hair?? Also, you can't wear a fancy dress with short hair either???

Our space helmets, our flying cars, our stoves that cook breakfast automatically, robot domestic helper (They kinda have these but not on the scale they imagined them back then). I'm sure I forgot a few gadgets but the point is the '50s view of the future? FAIL!! Funny thing about this is that they didn't imagine space helmets designed to take longer hair into account? HAHA!
